The history of rugs dates back as far as that of human history, with our predecessors using them not only for floor coverings, but also for bartering, warmth, and symbols of wealth and prosperity.  Today, infinite choices are available with antiques of tremendous provenance, to intricately pieced hair-on-hide puzzles, to whatever may strike a fancy!  Rugs are focal points, true works of art that anchor and define a space.  Imagine any of these rooms without their “room-makers”.

Floors are often an underappreciated aspect of interior design—many people don’t give much thought to the importance of flooring, but it is the (literal) foundation for furnishings and décor.  The floor in your home has enormous potential to make a striking statement—especially if painted. While some are daunted by the idea, painting your floors is a simple way to make a chic change—plus, painted floors are easy to clean and repair if scratched! Whether you go bold with patterns and stencils or opt for a solid neutral color, the effect is beautiful:

Tandus has introduced a line designed by men’s fashion designer Jhane Barnes. Called Box Study, it is a randomly appearing pattern which is ideal for large scale applications. Barnes translated the methodology behind her textile designs into one which would work for floor covering. It could be translated into almost any application because of its classic pattern that is available in 16 different colorways. Box Study is available in an 18″ x 18″ tile, 24″ x 24″ tile, 36″ x 36″ tile, and 6′ roll. Because of the random, large scale appearance of the design, it does not present the [Read more...]
