It’s all about the accent…

Accent walls are painted in a different color or style from the rest of the room, adding a healthy dose of drama and fun to any room in your home.  An accent wall could feature a pattern, texture, or color, and should be complemented by relatively neutral walls throughout the rest of the room. Accent walls are a great way to liven up a small room without it feeling overwhelming. On the other hand, a rich accent color can also make a larger space feel warmer and more intimate. Check out these beautiful examples of accent walls and see if [Read more...]

Room-making rugs

The history of rugs dates back as far as that of human history, with our predecessors using them not only for floor coverings, but also for bartering, warmth, and symbols of wealth and prosperity.  Today, infinite choices are available with antiques of tremendous provenance, to intricately pieced hair-on-hide puzzles, to whatever may strike a fancy!  Rugs are focal points, true works of art that anchor and define a space.  Imagine any of these rooms without their “room-makers”.

Illuminated dining

Never is a drop-dead gorgeous light fixture more appropriate than in a dining room, and all the more reason to pull out the stops.  A beautiful fixture is a focal point, and can create a sense of warmth, enclosure or even whimsy.   To heighten the sense of drama, fixtures should always be wired to a dimmer, so that the ambience in your dining room can move from brilliant to moody at the touch of a button.  A well-chosen chandelier accentuates the architecture and style of a dining room, and can also create an edgy contrast.           [Read more...]

A sense of arrival

The entryway should greet your guests, welcoming them into your home, and setting the scene,  so when decorating a foyer put as much thought into it as you would any other room in the house. Think about style, color and what kind of mood you want to create.  A few essentials to remember: A table, chest or shelf Mirror or focal point Light Carpet Runner or Large Door Mat And fresh flowers are always a convivial way to say “hello”!

Displaying collections

By nature, we are hunters and gatherers, stalking our prey at the local flea market, garage sale or antique store.  We bring home that perfect treasure to remind us of sunny beaches and travels abroad.  But effectively displaying the stuff we collect is more difficult than acquiring the individual items.  Collections are a great way to express your personal style, and when purposefully displayed, they look like art.  When displaying your collections, consider the following tips for an eye-pleasing collection. Collections often look best if they have a unifying theme – such as material, form or subject. Treasures displayed en [Read more...]

There are so many creative and easy things to do to add a little fun to your kids room.  Below are just a few ideas I have come across to get you started.  Of course most of the items can be purchased, but why not make it a DIY project!       Chalkboard tables are a fun way to add a reusable art space.  If you have an existing children’s table all you need to do is go to your local home improvement store and purchase a spray can or two of chalkboard paint.  If you are lucky enough [Read more...]

Basement Project in Stapleton Perfect for a New Family

We had so much fun working with our last family in Stapleton.  They have a beautiful little baby girl and wanted to create a fun space for her to play and grow up in.  We designed a playroom using fun carpet tiles that are washable.  Chalkboard paint was used on one large wall allowing kids and adults to write fun messages and pictures.  Under the stairs we created a fun little playhouse, along with dutch door and entry light.   The media room includes all technology in a enclosed cabinet hiding all wires and equipment.  A gas fireplace was included [Read more...]

How to Incorporate Concrete

Posted by Kama  |  June 24th, 2011  |  Comment on this post

Everyone’s heard about concrete countertops, and most people associate with it’s cold, cinderblock connotation. But there are many alternative ways that concrete can be used that will give your home the opposite feeling of frigid! Concrete is a strong and natural looking and functional element that can be used to even look like other materials- Think about using it’s design element as a substitute for the painted feature wall or as a mantlepiece paired with large windows to balance out the intensity of the concrete. If you’re thinking about using concrete in your home, we really recommend working with a [Read more...]
